Am i the only woman that doesn't like the idea of breastfeeding?
no, i don't have a baby, nor am i pregnant, but me and my hubby are planning to have children. he is adamant that i breastfeed beacuse of the benefits (immune system and such). however i dont like the idea of breastfeeding; to me its an inconvienence and i'm not comfortable with the idea. does anyone else feel this way, and what would you say to him in this situation?

Of course there are other woman out there that aren't comfortable with the idea of breast feeding. Its a personal decision and no one, not even your husband, can make you do it. I do suggest that you sit down with him and tell him how you feel. Tell him that him pushing the issue makes you even more uncomfortable. When you actually become pregnant, your view may change and it may not. "Breast is best", but its still your decision.

Then how are you going to feed your babies?
Formula?
Let's be honest about that. You are aware that formula has no proven benefits over straight cow's milk, right? That a formula-fed baby suffers a lot of the same health risks (including an increased risk of death, of hospitalization) that a baby exposed to second-hand smoke does?
(Google "risks of formula"...)
I'm not clear on how messing with cans of stuff that has to be prepared and warmed, and bottles that have to be cleaned and so on, and having to tote all that junk around, is 'convenient,' but no mind.
I suppose you can say "I don't know that I have the ability to be a good mother to an infant, seeing as how providing one with optimal nutrition strikes me as a tad INCONVENIENT, and, y'know, like, I've got hang-ups" to your husband. I really don't know what else to tell you.

I honestly am dreading breast feeding and for my own personal reasons I'm not going to breast feed.I mean I will try it but if I don't like the feeling I'm going to use a breast pump that way my baby can still get the benefits of breast milk and my husband can share in the feding experience.Maybe you should run that idea past your hubby.Trust me..its a good thing you two are discussing it now because besides the whole"are you having a natural childbirth" question"are you going to breast feed" is a very popular question that everyone loves to ask and judge a pregnant woman.Good luck!

I felt the exact same way as you, until I actually got pregnant. Now I can't see myself doing anything but.

Re: Am i the only woman that doesn't like the idea of breastfeeding?
I am a mother to two healthy children. My daughter is almost 3 and I never breast-fed her and she has always been ahead. (walking at 10 months, talking like a parrot at 1 year and months) and my son is (8 months) and I did it for a month and I was the same uncomfortable and hated it, but I pushed myself, and at 1 month I stopped having milk drop so he's been on formula since and he is just as good! So Honestly breastmilk is the best but now days formula is so close to it that your baby wil be fine. Good Luck with your choice, and remember do what makes you comfortable and happy b/c you don't want the baby sensing your tense or anything!

No, you are not. I didn't like the idea at first. You don't have to breastfeed your baby at all. There are plenty of formulas out there. You will still produce milk and it may hurt when it has to "dry up", though. I actually changed my mind when I got pregnant and now I want to breastfeed because of the nutritional benefits to the baby.

Oh wow! Can we say "harsh much?" Other than that, I'm speechless.
As far as the lady who started this thread. Of course you're not alone...but it is YOUR decision and choice. I do agree that if at all possible, you should use a breast pump so the baby will get the best nutrition, but as it's already been said. Today's formula is very advanced and can be almost as good. Some women's breastmilk isn't even all that nutritious or good for the baby cause they don't take care of themselves or are on medications that can pass to the baby. It is a case by case situation.

AMEN sista!!!
I have no intentions to breast feed. While I respect and admire women who are comfortable with it I hardly think not breast feeding means that you are any less loving, caring or responsible of a parent.
So no you are not alone. It's your body and your choice do what you are comfortable with. Hey maybe you can get your hubby one of those boobs like in the movie meet the fockers. Hahahahaha!!!! Don't be to hard on him(not that you have been I don't know). He is just being a concerned papa :-) and may not fully understand what with not being a woman and all.
