my newborn baby son is know 4 days old ..i am finding that ever since we have gotten out of the hospital he has been eating every 2 hours about 3 oz-4 oz a feeding .he was a 8 pound baby .but i know that he is only suppose to eat about 2-2 in a half oz every 4 hours but he always seems to fuss and cry n cry and i do everything with him rock him walk him around change him talk to him and he will not stop crying untill we feed him ..i am just wondering if that is okay to feed him evey 2 hours whenever he wants and how much he wants.or is there outher stuff i can do 2 make him stop crying

i've heard, as a good rule of thumb, when the baby cries, check the diaper, and feed. he cant tell you whats wrong, and he decided when he's done. so he wont overeat.

Feeding schedule should be flexible, he or she will want to eat when he or she becomes hungry. Very young infants need to be fed every 2-3 hours, older babies usually eat every 4-5 hours. Crying is the only way a baby can communicate that he or she is hungry. Look for other causes as well...a dirty diaper, uncomfortable position, etc.

I was looking at the label on a free can of formula that I got in the mail and it said for a baby the age of yours that 3-4 oz of formula every two hours is the average but all babies are different so some will eat more and some will eat less. I think the amount that he's eating is perfectly fine.

Every baby eats different amounts. My baby girl did the same thing. They told me I was feeding her to much,( for a few weeks to about 2 months) However a baby wont eat it if they are full. They are smart. I did try to space it out to 2 half hr. - 3 I found that if I swaddled her it helped.

NBC has this new show coming out called The Baby Borrowers and they'll give babies to teens for a short period of time...I'm thinking they'll probably address this issue of feeding at some point.

check with your pediatrician but I have always fed my baby's on demand (I breastfed) and they would sometimes eat every hour. Baby's dont usually over eat, they stop when they are full.

My daughter was always an aggressive eater and fed about every 2-3 hours. She was 6lbs when she was born but she never overate. She ate about 2-2 1/2 ounces every few hours. If you are concerned, talk to your pediatrician. Your little one won't overeat! Swaddling always seemed to soothe my baby between feedings!

I think if the baby wants it he is hungary. As long as he isnt becoming sick afterwards. He must need it. When I breastfed, my boy was eating approx every 1 and 1/2 hours.
