Do you get the pricey formula or try to get a cheaper alternative? Anyone try mom to mom formula? I like to compare ingredients when it comes to getting cheaper alternatives.

We are going to be getting WIC for the baby. What they let you get with the checks is the Carnation Good Start. We were looking at the forumals at Walmart one day just to price it because I know that we will have to buy at least one can ourselves because what WIC gives you doesn't usually last the whole month so we just wanted to see what it would cost us and I was very surprised to see that the Carnation Good Start was actually more expensive than the Enfamil and Similac. We were looking at the cans of powder mix. I don't know about the cans of concentrate or ready made. WIC will give us the choice of either getting the cans of powder or the concentrate that you just add water to. I'm not sure which one to get. Whatever supplies the most is probably what we will go with.

When it comes to quality price isn't really a good way to determine it. Get a can of cheaper formula and a can of expensive formula and you'll generally find that all of the ingredients are the same as well as daily nutritional values. Usually you're paying for the name when you pay more ~.^ I intend to breastfeed though so WOOT free

I wasn't able to keep breastfeeding...I wasn't producing enough after about 2 months. I wish I had started with the generic formula's!! By the time I tried switching my daughter to the generic she was already used to the brand name and wouldn't take the generic. Next time I am STARTING with the generics.

Enfamil through WIC with my first daughter, but didn't qualify with my 2nd so I used Walmarts Parents choice, she did just fine, and towards the end she tolarated any formula I had samples of.

Powder is the most affordable generally and gives the most through wic. Even if you're going to get Carnation with wic, go ahead and by a generic brand (costco is super cheap) because it will give everything the baby needs. True, babies do develop preferences over time, but you'll be fine to start with. Make sure the formula you buy is iron fortified and always make sure you have extra formula, so you don't need to panic when you're suddenly out!
