Default Is it a bad idea to start breastfeeding at 6 months if all she's had up to now

is formula - super healthy baby My baby is in excellent health and of normal weight for her 6 months as I was told by her pediatrician. She's never been sick at all and I am thinking about starting her on solids soon (I'll probably start her off with rice cereal for babies). But I'm thinking of holding off on the solids for a little bit and maybe thinking of trying to breast feed her because some people have been telling me that I've just been lucky my baby hasn't gotten sick since I never have breast fed her, and only given her formula from day 1. (reason I never did breast feed her is because my milk didn't come in till several days after she had been born and the times when I attempted to breast feed, she didn't ever latch on, so I continued giving her formula. She drinks Enfamil Gentlease formula). Should I try and start to breast feed her at this point or should I just continue to formula feed her and try and start her on the solids, the rice cereal? I don't even know if I will still produce milk tho.

I would say after 6 months yuo most likely have dried up. However some people do not dry up for years after a birth. Try hand expressing and see if you get anthing other wse you will have to stick to that bottle

Never a bad idea to breastfeed. People with adopted babies breastfeed. and just so you know... most women's milk does not "come in" until days 3-5, but colostrum really is enough to keep a baby healthy until then.

Here's a ton of info on adoptive nursing... since you're almost starting from scratch. Relactation is something else to research.

Yes it's true that breast milk contains antibodies that protect your baby from certain illnesses. There is still a good chance that you may be able to start producing breast milk again with determination. I've not heard of a baby of this age starting to breastfeed when all they've ever known is a bottle and sucking on a breast is a different technique to drinking from a bottle. You're baby would be ready to start having solids now to meet her nutritional needs. All I can suggest is that you do what feels right for you both. It sounds like you are feeling guilty about not breastfeeding. Don't be too hard on yourself, I'm sure you're doing a great job.

Hello, you actually wanna start now.I would just stick to formula, obviously you made the choice awhile back.I mean in my opinion they're no diffrences in a breastfed or formula fed baby. Both have downfalls I've seen dumb and smart of both and healthy and unhealthy it dosen't mater.Make up your own mind, but I believe we're past that.Later you'll have to ween baby off of you.Babies usually ween off a bottle at 12mos.anyways and think of the pumping and soreness that would all suck.
