Breastfeeding is the way to go but sometimes it doesn't happen regardless of your best intention. The key is not to feel guilty regardless of comments made to you. I tried to breast feed twice but when I get told by my lactation consultant to alternate formula feeding with breast milk and put it in the bottle, that told me, what is the point. Some people it works for them..it isn't as natural as you think, it's hard work and breastfeeding and feeding every 2 hrs is tough on a new mom. With my daughter and my son I was nervous wreck having tubes stuck to my nipple so formula would also go into their mouths---when it gets to that stage, what is the point!
As far as bonding goes, I held my babies during the bottle feeding, so that you get that loving feeling.
As far as immune system..there is no real proof...I wasn't breastfeed among many others and I'm as healthy as anything.
Yes, breast milk is best (supposedly) but formula is a close second and just think, there is obviously a reason it was made in the first place.
