A progesterone birth control pill is given for nursing moms, but it's not as effective and many women complain of side effects, such as irregular bleeding. For some it works well though, talk to your doctor.

I chose to not use the pill and I didn;' have a period for 12 months, when I weaned my daughter. I decided that I'd rather use alternative methods rather than a pill which brings on your period. I hate having a period though, so it really depends on your preference.
