Unfortunately, I don't believe there is a law regarding this but you could pass by the mother and mutter "you sick perverted woman!" LOL I would actually be the type of person to do that.

"It's their right" WHATEVER!!! Are you serious???? What is the REASON for breastfeeding beyond a few months or even a year?! PERVERSION that's what.

well there is not age limit on breast feeding. I breast feed but i just had a baby she is only 3 weeks and only plan to breast feed her until 1 year or she weans herself. Also your milk doesn't dry up unless you stop breast feeding. when you breast feed that is telling your breast to make more milk.

Breastfeeding at 5 is a bit long but a lady at my church had to breatfeed for awhile b/c her son is deathly allergic to so many things. Breastfeeding for that reason should not be held against someone. I think that in a situation of allergies where my child had life threating allergeries I would pump and give it to the child. But in many case women could care less what others think if its protecting their kid.

I recently watched a program on tv where some women were breast-feeding their kids up to the age of 8. These children have lisps and need some orthodontic work done in most cases, especially after their milk teeth have fallen out. There's a reason they're called milk teeth.

I plan to breast-feed my daughter as long as she wants to up to the age of 2. In some cultures it's mandatory to breast-feed up to the age of 3. In my opinion you only have one chance to do it right and it's your duty to give them as long as they need, but 5 is seriously demented!

While I personally wouldn't go that long I do find it disturbing that so many people here feel they have the right to judge someone's choice. BF is recommended past 1 the WHO recommends at LEAST 2 years meaning more is better. Your BM changes as your child gets older so it still is nutritional sound for an older baby. As far as BF in public. It is a legally PROTECTED right for a reason. If you don't wanna see it walk away. The breast is not nearly as hard on teeth as a bottle or a pacifier. The idea that BF a 2 year old is perverted may be the most foolish thing I have ever heard in my life. Do I agree with BF a 5 or 8 year old NO WAY not my kid but hey it is just that MINE so why do you all feel so comfortable judging their parenting choices? I bet you wouldn't pass perfect parenting scrutiny either!

ITA, I'm shocked about everyone saying they are discusted about BF past a year, my daughter wasn't even eating baby food or anything else at a year old (her choice). YOU don't know the circumstances on why this child was being nursed for so long. My DD's GI specilist is from Africa and remembers being nursed at age 5, it's the norm over there and in a lot of other countries, he's apparently OK, very sucessful and has no issues of sexual abuse and was one of my main support systems with nursing my daughter until she was 2.5 years old. I think a lot of people need to do some research on breastfeeding "extended breastfeeding" past a year before passing judgement onto someone else and their choices on how to parent children that are not theirs.

I think that breastfeeding to where the child asks for it, can lift up your shirt is WRONG. My sis in law still breast feeds her daughter because she can stay size 4-6 and rarely menstrates and doesn't have to worry about the pill by continuing to breastfeed. Her daughter is 4 and will ask for booby milk, lift up her mom's shirt and even undo her bra if her mom isn't paying attention or deosn't react quick enough.

My daughter was able to ask for it and lift up my shirt before she was a year old, she would sign milk and lifted my my shirt up (or pull it down, depending on the shirt, she knew where the "boops" were and knew how to get them).....the bra confused her every time though....but anyway, I think everyone needs to do some research on extended breastfeeding and the benefits and remember that everyone out there parents their own children differently, we are not in this for mommy wars and to judge others on their parenting choices and style.

That's not true. You can still get pregnant. Many people have gotten pregnant thinking they couldn't because they where breast feeding.
