Well, if your pregnancy test was positive, of course you could be pregnant! But the patterns that you are describing are very normal for the return of a period during breastfeeding. I am not sure exactly what direction your question is, so i'm going to answer two :
If you're concerned about breastfeeding while you're pregnant, please be assured that it is safe both for you, your older baby, and your fetus. Time and time again mothers have happily and successfully breastfed through an entire pregnancy and then nursed two children at the same time! I won't go any further into this, though, because I dont think this is actually your question. Just wanted to plug it in, just in case.
The period cycles you're mentioning are very normal for the stage postpartum that you are at. They will often rely very heavily on how much your baby is nursing. Some mothers will find when their baby begins sleeping through the night, they will get their periods back. Only to find, a few weeks or months later, their baby starts waking at night again, and boom - no more periods again. It's all normal. Your body is trying to determine whether it will be able to support another baby and if your first baby is nursing a lot, it will often shut down fertility and focus on supporting the baby it is growing right now. All normal!
If I might share my own experience, I am still breastfeeding my 2 year old. I didnt' get my period back until this past April - she was 20 months old. My cycles before her used to be 30-32 days. Now, they are anywhere from 28-45 days (which is incredibly frustrating since we're trying to conceive). My guess? Because she still wakes at night, sleeps with me in bed, and nurses through the night and through the day.
When I'm on call for a number of births, or am otherwise away from her more often, my period comes sooner that month. Its an interesting correlation.
