the fact that so many people get upset by this is ridiculous!

i majored in psychology and a huge chunk of child psychology focuses on emotional development though play and imitation.

it's how kids learn and grow! and its a way a young girl begins to feel more grown up and adult-like.

it's the same reason most girls took their barbies clothes off and put them in sexual positions with ken. it doesn't mean that a child has been molested if they play with their dolls in a sexual manner.

while it might make the mother of the child uncomfortable that the girl chose to do this, there is absolutley nothing wrong with a little curiosity.

i'm sure no one had told her before that it wasn't acceptable, and i'm sure she never did it again once the concept was explained.

it's basic human psychology in action, people.

As the oldest of 9 kids, I can honestly say, none of my siblings (or cousins for that matter) have ever done anything like this. I had one foster brother once (not counted in the 9) who stole all of our bras.... and I have a brother who likes to grab at girls breasts. But that's about it.

While it is totally gross and weird, she probably was just curious. Defiantly keep an eye on her behavior. She might be acting out sexually, and if so, she needs someone to talk to.

Be gentle when you talk to her. You don't want to humiliate her and create a worse situation for her, the mother of the baby, or the baby. She might end up resenting you and the infant for a very embarrassing situation. If she ends up resenting the infant for getting busted about her curiosity she could do something to act out even worse, like hurt the baby.

Just be very careful about how you handle the situation.

With all due respect, I too majored in psychology (applied psych though) and was NEVER taught something like this. Who in the world did you study???

Psych major or not, I dont think its healthy for a child to 'grow' by practicing breastfeeding on her nephew, there are other ways to learn about it and letting a baby suckle on your boob at 14 is not one of them.

If she was hiding it from the baby's mother, she was obviously aware that what she was doing was wrong.

"Cross nursing" can affect the baby psychologically. A difference in a tone of voice, timing (baby probably has set feeding times) and even the way she holds it can confuse and frustrate the infant.

To her it might be experimental but you should let the baby's mother know.

Totally strange and not normal. I think you should tell the mother so she knows to never leave her baby alone with her. I think she is mentally disturbed. I never tried to breast feed any baby and I helped take care of a few. I loved babysitting. CREEPY!!!!!

I suppose I'll throw my opinion in there since everyone thinks this is totally weird. In the Vietnamese culture this is very very normal. If you aren't used to it, it's totally weird, I was totally taken aback when I first saw my friends grandmother 'nursing' her baby. But, if you're raised to see this as a normal pacifier and see breast as part of the body that is useful for reasons other than sexual, then why not? So yeah, I understand the, well repulsion, on this subject, but at the same time there are plenty who find this practical and innocent.
