I'm about 5 weeks also! Or it might be 6 because the 2007 calendar got thrown away before I knew I was pregnant so I can only guess as to when the first day of my last period was...

My due date is 9/08/08 right now and I'm going in on February 14th for my first vist. You're lucky to get an ultra sound so early! In Alaska the don't really want to see you until you're 8-12 weeks! The waiting is killing me!

Congratulations! I called a doc when I thought I was about a month along--I guessed even though I had no CLUE when the first day of my last period was. They made me wait until I was approx. 7 weeks because otherwise nothing will show up on the ultrasound because the baby isn't far enough along in it's development. You won't get to hear the heartbeat until week 12 but our technician was able to measure the heart rate on the screen for us and measured the image on the screen of the baby and I was in fact 7 weeks and a few days. Even though our first ultrasound didn't turn up a very good image still (which is why some places have you wait even longer) it was very exciting to see that something was in fact there! Now, I can't wait until my 20 week ultrasound to see the baby further along in their development---another month to go and we're not finding out the sex! Enjoy everything because it starts to go by quickly!

I had my first ultrasound at 7 weeks, and just yeaterday I had my second, at 13 weeks. What a difference...the first ultrasound you can see the little flicker of the heart beat, but at the 13th you can see the entire body...our baby was flipping all around-very amusing. We got a nice picture of her/his hand, too, and the clarity of the five tiny fingers in the image is amazing. I can't wait until my 18th week ultrasound.

As for the heart beat, my mother is an OBGYN and I heard the baby's heartbeat at 9 weeks and 4 days. Around ten weeks most heart beats should be able to be heard with a doppler- the position of the baby makes a difference- this is my third baby and it was jsut as exciting hearing the heart beat for the first time, this time, as it was with my older two!
