I had my first ultrasound at 7 weeks, and just yeaterday I had my second, at 13 weeks. What a difference...the first ultrasound you can see the little flicker of the heart beat, but at the 13th you can see the entire body...our baby was flipping all around-very amusing. We got a nice picture of her/his hand, too, and the clarity of the five tiny fingers in the image is amazing. I can't wait until my 18th week ultrasound.
As for the heart beat, my mother is an OBGYN and I heard the baby's heartbeat at 9 weeks and 4 days. Around ten weeks most heart beats should be able to be heard with a doppler- the position of the baby makes a difference- this is my third baby and it was jsut as exciting hearing the heart beat for the first time, this time, as it was with my older two! Good luck
