I vote that when you sign up to this forum, women/people must have their screen names confirmed through email after verifying they are not bots and writing an introductory paragraph in a "Why you chose this forum" (Not word for word, but perhaps a few questions to answer to clear things up) type section. [Are you TTC or Pregnant? Are you willing to abide by forum rules and reg's? Are you a nurse or other health care provider wishing to aid women in need? Etc.)
A) Weeds out a LOT/most of the bots
B) Requiring a short introduction would help keep the community tighter and keep the "kiddies" out, so to speak. Some people will obviously cause trouble, despite checking out ok in the original introduction, but it will at least cut down on bot and obvious troll problems. You can tell a lot about someone or their intentions from the stuff they write.
Certain mods who elected for the duty would have the confirmation emails sent to their inbox to confirm for said user. If a users email is something like
becky4sex@spambot.com then we obviously know who we're denying. If the screen name is something like 234234jijsdoa20 then again, deny. Those people will never gain access or confirmation. We wouldn't have to make the forums private unless signed, just prevent a lot of the traffic that would reach us FROM reaching us.
Now, I realize, because most of you are mods, you do not have admin power and would not be able to change this anyways. However, if this or something similar to this could come into effect, I think it would greatly help the community of women here who genuinely interested in keeping this place safe and clean.
Of course, this is just a suggestion, and if it too much work for anyone I am totally willing to accept it's a bad idea.

I just feel as though open enrollment, so to speak, is sometimes bad news.
