Hi, when i got pregnant i had to just choose a OBGYN out of a provider book. I always had my paps done by planned parenthood or my primary doctor. So i went for my first appointment with my obgyn and while he seemed fine, i am just worried that maybe he is not the right obgyn for me. I cant say he did anything wrong except i was kind of mad when my friend who is newly pregnant told me her doctor gave her all these free samples and lots of great info. My doctor didnt really give me any info like what things to avoid and such. Is that okay?
So my question is Do you really like your doctor or is it just a doctor? I mean i dont know what to do, if i change docs i risk getting somone that i might really hate. What would you do?

Well... I'm a military spouse so the doctors I go and see is never the same doctor. That kind of works in my favor a little because I've had a chance to see a few different doctors and have been able to see who I like and I've found one that I like more than the rest so I've tried to request him most times... it doesnt always work out that way but yeah... it kinda sucks knowing that I'll more than likely have a doctor deliver my baby who I've never seen before.

So I dunno if I were you and you are basing your decision off of not getting free samples or what he did/didnt tell you I'd give it another go. Ask questions, and lots of them and see how he reacts to them.

I love my doctor. She has given me so much information and been very supportive. I had a miscarriage earlier this year and she was great. I would suggest asking around, that's how I found mine and I can't imagine not having someone I liked.

I recommend you try somebody else if you didnt get a great vibe from him! I switched around 18 weeks with this pregnancy because there was a few things that I felt uncomfortable about and I am really glad that I switched! You can switch as many times as needed, and the early the easier probably

The nurses are great at getting you free samples....you don't even have to ask the doctor. When they are bringing you back to the room, just ask if they have any free samples (they usually have tons of prenatal samples!). Just ask, sometimes the doctors just get so busy and backed up, that they forget.

I love my OB. She and the other people that work there are very caring. They take time to answer questions and have a good bed side manner. My OB jokes around a lot but in a professional manner so that always makes me feel more comfortable. I wouldn't switch doctors just because I wasn't offered free samples. I was given some free samples of prenatal vitamins in the very beginning but they were given to me by the nurse practioner when we went in for to our prenatal profile. My insurance pays for my prenatal vitamins so I really didn't need the samples although it was nice of her to give them to me to try.

if you dont like your doctor i would def change thats your child and you would want the right person delievering it...its probably to late to post to this post but i figured id pu in my input at obgyn there were always like 3 doctors i liked 2 and just something i dunno i just didnt like the third and all i did was tell the nurse i dont want him no more and never seen him again so hopefully u figured it out

Hi thanks for all the responses and i wanted to clarify that i am not changing docs just beacuse i didnt get free samples. lol. I am just not comfortable with this doctor. He seems rather aloof so i am changing docs now. Thanks again.

As of right now I'm going to the free clinic, until I get married and the Military insurance takes over. I liked my doctor at first. She set me up with a nutritionist and I had consults and she told me all about thier different programs, gave me a map of the hospital and packets of information.
Now, idk. It may be that I'm just sick of sitting in the waiting room for an hour every time I go in, even though I always have an appointment, but I'm not too happy with it anymore.
Granted, I don't like going to the Doctor or any Doctor that I've had in the past.

I don't think you have to like them. So long as they are qualified to do thier job, I say whatever. But again, I may change my mind when it comes to the Dr that will be with me in the end to deliver my baby. I know that I'm going to change Dr.s before then, so maybe that's why I don't hold a strong opinion about my current Dr.
