I do not recommend using the morning after pill as your birth control. If she doesn't want to be on birth control regularly then I recommend using condoms. Plan B is a strong dose of meds. It's hard on your stomach and will throw her cycles for a loop. That is what it's supposed to do! Again, it is not meant to be a formal method of BC.

Hormonal birth control is not meant to be used only occasionally. It's meant to be used as prescribed, which does not mean "only when we have sex" - all hormonal forms of BC take a week of use before you're officially protected and then if you stop after the next week you're going to confuse her poor body. Expect wacked out periods and accidental pregnancies. Not exactly what you want.

So I would look into barrier forms of birth control like condoms and maybe even a diaphragm or a cervical cap. Just be warned they aren't as good as hormonal BC.

I c, Thanks for the warning. what about the patch? Is it safe that my gf apply the first patch 1 week before seeing me, then apply the second patch when she sees me. From what i read, from the first day of the 2nd patch, it should be safe. Then stop using until she sees me again? Would that work?

No! Thats exactly what I said you shouldn't do! YOu have to use them as prescribed which means she uses it for 3 weeks (a new one every week) and takes it off the 4th week for her period, and then repeats. As prescribed. If she doesnt she is going to screw up and confuse her body and her cycles.

So I guess the only options are Implanon and Condoms. Does Implanon has the same effect as the Depo shot (weight gain,...)?

I have no idea. You'd have to ask a doc. If there are problems it can be removed, much like the IUD and other forms of BC

I would not recommend taking the morning after pill once a month, my friend took it and it made her miserably sick! Your GF should really talk with a doctor about what method is best for her. Why is it such a problem to use the patch for 3 weeks? Is she afraid it will make her fat? Any hormonal contraceptive needs to be taken exactly as recommended. If she only uses the patch the week before she sees you it won't be effective. An IUD might be a good thing for you guys. It stays in for up to five years and you don't have to do a thing with it, when you want it out it can be taken out. And it's 99.9% effective. I have three sisters who have all had it for almost five years with no problems!

If she has never had children before the doctor might not fit her with an iud. I used the Mirena iud up until July of 2007 when my husband and I decided we wanted to try and conceive. The doctor said they only recommend it for people that have already had at least one child. It has something to do with the uterus expelling it.

Some docs will say no to an IUD if she hasn't had kids but many will say yes. My sis is 17 and childless and had her IUD put in last week. I have no children and I had two different docs offer to give me one when I was seriously considering one.

It is more uncomfortable to place in if you haven't had kids. The cervix is a bit tighter to maneuver through

I love Mirena so it's definitely something I would recommend. It's the best birth control I ever used and I will be getting it again after the baby is born. My OB said I could get it about 7 weeks after the baby is born. She wants to see me for my six week check up and then she said she would schedule it for the following week.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Thing is my gf has not had a baby before and she does not like the idea of "implanting" something "there". She likes something that she does not need to remember doing daily coz chances are she will not follow the routine. Thats why she was thinking of the depo shot or Implanon. Apart from condom, Is there really nothing else provides effective contraception that only needs to be used right before sex or 1,2 weeks before sex?
