Default Absorbed pregnancy??

I posted this in the miscarraige section a while ago but not really sure which section it belongs in sorry!

Have any of you heard of an absorbed pregnancy?? I went to my doc yesterday because my period is 3 weeks late, 2 weeks ago I had a pos hpt but last week I had a neg hpt so I went to the doc yesterday and he sent me to the Gynae ER for a scan because I've also had stabbing pains in my left side for the last week.

It was awful in the hospital, I've never had an internal exam done before but I really wasn't expecting what happened!! The doc put a clear plastic thing that looked like a clamp into my cervix and opened it and then shone a light in!! thinking about it now it couldn't have been more embarrassing! but I didn't have time to think about being embarrassed at the time!

Anyways, they did an internal scan also and told me that it looks like I was pregnant but maybe just for a day or two and that I lost it and it was absorbed into my body, i've never heard or this before though. They were also concerned that it could be an ectopic pregnancy, chances of that are quite small but I've to go back on Monday anyway for another scan and more bloods to find out.

I don't think any of this has really sunk in yet, I think I'm still in shock by the whole thing. Have any of you heard of an absorbed pregnancy before??

How old are you and why haven't you ever had a pelvic exam before? As soon as you become sexually active you are supposed to get a pelvic exam (pap smear) once a year. Once you hit your 20s if you still aren't sexually active you are supposed to start the yearly exams regardless. That clamp is a speculum and it is part of the yearly exam routine that we all experience. Sorry chicky but that "embarrassing" experience should be a routine yearly experience.

If you were pregnant early on but are not now then the pregnancy failed very early on. The body usually expels everything when you have your period (perhaps delayed because of the pregnancy). The body does absorb a pregnancy but its usually done when there are twins and one is still alive so the body can't actively expel the pregnancy. The basic idea though is that you were pregnant and are not now so it failed early on. Absorbed, expelled, whatever.

That would be actually called a chemical pregnancy i think. Also you should have paps every year. Sorry you went through that.
