Yes, I know you can get pregnant without protection. My concerns were how likley it is to become pregnant the closer you are to your ovulation date...
Also, I think you are rather misinformed about how long an egg lasts and sperm live.
"Research has shown that some sperm may survive in the Fallopian tubes up to 7 days, with the average amount of time being 3 to 4 days." Of course this is in "best" conditions, but they can survive longer than just 24 hours. In the vagina, however, sperm do not live as long. So maybe that's what you were thinking.
To be honest, I have never heard someone say an egg lasts a full cycle. I read eggs only live for ~24 hours and have a window of 12-24 hours after ovulation. I guess you didn't really read my post right...
