Default Pregnancy and Sickness

Months ago I got a cold which, as usual, resulted in a sinus infection in which my ears were plugged. My right ear FINALLY unplugged after about a month or so but my left ear is STILL plugged = (

I already took a z pack early on and have tried sudafed...but nothing. Sometimes, I will yawn and my ear will pop but then it will go back to being plugged and I hear ringing. One time, I blew my nose and it popped but again, went back. I am so frustrated!!

Is it possible that this is lasting a long time only because I am pregnant?

It sounds like the z pack didn't get rid of the whole infection. I have cronic sinus infections and the only thing that works to get rid of mine is a low dose antibiotic for a long peorid of time (21 days). Once my doctor understood that the 3-7 day stuff was not working (because I was right back in his office every week), it clicked with him to go this route. Good Luck on this, sinus infections are horriable and I'm at the tail end of one right now.

I had that same problem with my left ear. I wasn't sick and I didn't have any kind of infection. It was just due to being pregnant. It started when I was about six months pregnant and lasted throughout the rest of my pregnancy. My OB looked at my ears and so did my primary care physician and neither doctor could find anything wrong. It was kind of strange that it was only in my left ear. Also one thing I noticed is that it wouldn't start to bother me until after I got out of the shower. It wouldn't feel blocked continuously. I would get some relief from it but then as soon as I took a shower it seemed to start back up again. It was really weird. As soon as the baby was born it stopped. I haven't had a problem with it since. It's very common to experience that during pregnancy from what I've heard.

Thank you for the replies. I guess I'll mention it to my dr again and have her check my ear out (last time it was VERY red which was why she gave me the z pack). I have penacillin in my cabinet but I'm reluctant to take it while I'm pregnant. ~I was given this in March when I was sick and the dr didn't bother to ask if there was a possibility that I was pregnant~

Penacillin products (like amozicillin) is the only thing my doctor will give me since the z pack doesn't work while I am pregnant and/or nursing (and both are safe to take while pregnant)

Have you tried having your ears syringed?

I use to suffer from blocked ears all the time when I was younger. It was horrible, I remember the first time it happened I was 9 years old and I remember sitting on the toilet crying my eyes out saying 'why me'. They use to get blocked for months at a time. Anyway I put up with it for about 4 years thinking it was normal then one day a bug flew into my ear and I had to have my ears syringed. This procedure involved flushing out my ears with warm water.

Ever since I had my ears cleaned out I have never had a blocked ear since, not even when I go swimming.

Just a thought.
