Default Braxton Hicks question

Does the entire uterus contract? Or can parts of it contract? I'm not sure if I'm getting braxton hicks contractions of if it is the baby pushing too hard on the inside of my uterus. Sometimes it's just in a small area, but it feels like a contraction! Is it hard to tell??

I am 35 weeks today and haven't had any noticable braxton hicks in a while but when I was having them they were my whole stomach. My entire stomach would just tighten up big time and then loosen up just about as quick as it came.

It sounds like yours is the baby moving around since it's just a small area.

Mine will typically be on one side or the other- kind of like baby is sticking his butt out really far.

I haven't felt any braxton hicks at all, I'm 12 weeks 4 days. But I had an ultrasound this morning, and I got to SEE one! The ultrasound tech mentioned braxton hicks, and I looked at the screen and my whole uterus was contracting...I didn't feel it at all, but my poor baby was getting squashed! It was the weirdest thing to see, because I couldn't feel anything at all in my abdomen.

As to your actual question...no idea, sorry. It looked like my whole uterus was contracting, but I've heard that braxton hicks are only in the "front", and that true labor contractions affect your entire uterus.

You start contracting pretty early in pregnancy, but you won't feel it till after around 20 weeks and later. Some people don't really feel them much till the very end, or at all - especially in first pregnancies.

I'd say what you're feeling is the baby or another type of muscle contraction, it COULD be braxton hicks, lol. Real helpful, I know, I'm sorry.

I had this weird thing where my entire stomach would go rock hard and stay that way for like 15 minutes... then it would feel ok again... I dunno what that was all about but my friends midwife says that kind of thing happens when you get tired and it's a "form" of braxton hicks..

I say, "What the?..." cause what do I know, let alone FORMS of braxton hicks? I guess if any muscle can tense up, wouldn't it be safe to assume it can tense up only partially as well? :/ I know that the top of my belly will go really hard sometimes but that's just baby pushin' her butt of up there, happens mostly when I've been sitting for a long time I've noticed.

Either way, huh...
