Woman conceives twice in 3 weeks
Oh my word. I watched this on one of my morning shows. Can you believe it??? Im going to read further into it.. but this just blows my mind! And here we all think we are safe having unprotected sex while pregnant! lol
Pregnant Woman Got Pregnant Twice in 3 Weeks – Believe it or not? « Amazon888 Blog
This woman got pregnant again twice in three weeks time. But they are not twins. This situation is an extremely rare case where an expectant woman conceives another child.
Doctors called it “Superfetation.”
Superfetation means the formation of a fetus while another fetus is already present in the uterus. It occurs when eggs from two separate menstrual cycles are released, as opposed to normal dizygotic twins where multiple ova are expelled in a single cycle.
Although common in animals, it is rare in humans, but can result in a twin or multiple pregnancy where the fetuses display a marked difference in gestational development.
I guess the main fear is that twins are almost always born prematurly. Well when this woman goes into labor, its going to force the baby who is 2-3 weeks younger than the other, to be delivered then too. This could be detrimental to the youngest baby's health depending on how early they are born. Idk.. this case should be fun to watch! Just thought I'd share it with everyone!

Thats not even funny. Every time I have an ultrasound now I'm afraid another baby is going to show up.

Well, it might be twice the blessing to have two babies, rather than one! (I know it means a rougher pregnancy, though... and a lot more complications possible.)

But wait, isn't the cervix supposed to be nice and closed? Maybe its rare because there would have to be an opening? IDK...

Re: Woman conceives twice in 3 weeks
My question is, how would they figure this out? From reading this forum I know that generally an ultrasound can't detect a fetus until maybe the 6th week, and for many of us not until a few weeks later. By the time two fetuses could be detected and determined that one is smaller than the other, how would they determine that it's because of timing and not just that the larger one is hogging all the space and nutrients?

Re: Woman conceives twice in 3 weeks
Hmm, okay, so from watching the interview it sounds like they figured it out because in the first trimester twins usually seem to be the same size, but this pair were different sizes. Interesting.
