Typically you do lose your mucus plug. Some women may lose the plug as early as 36 weeks, while many others may not lose it until labor has begun. Sometimes you may not even notice that you are losing it because it happens gradually, over several weeks.

with my first child I never lost mine and the second child I lost 3 weeks before I had him, so it doesn't really mean anything.

no, some women dont lose it until they are well into labor. i even read a story once where the mucus plug was stuck in the baby's hair when it came out.
