Default Question

This is my first pregnancy and I'm about 6 weeks along. I haven't had my first doctor's appointment yet. Like everyone else, I've been worried about a miscarriage a lot. for the past five days I've been spotting. It's not been a lot but it's been continuous. I know that can be normal. I went to the ER the other night and they said if it is a miscarriage they can't stop it, so I just went home. Today the spotting has been a different color, almost brown, which makes me even more nervous. No matter what happens I'm going to the doctor in about a week and a half so I don't really see any reason to go earlier since they can't keep it from happening. I almost feel like there is no hope that I won't miscarriage.

Spotting is fairly common in normal pregnancies, especially in the first trimester. The brown blood is actually good. means that it's old blood that's just working its way out, nothing fresh. Try not to worry too much! It's probably nothing.

Thanks. That makes me feel better. Everything you read on the internet and pregnancy books says something different. The doctor is supposed to call me back so we can talk about it later today.

Unhappy More info on my situation

I called the doctor today and they said to watch for bright red blood and cramping. The blood is now bright red and slightly heavier than it was earlier today. I'm so nervous. I go to the doctor tomorrow and I'm supposed to go to the ER tonight if i get bad cramping.

I sincerely hope this doesn't turn into a miscarriage and I'm surprised your doctor didn't suggest you relax. Before I had my first miscarriage, my doctor told me that my pregnancy was "threatened". I was given strict orders to stop ANY heavy activity and basically to be on bedrest. I was young at the time and didn't want the child so I continued with everything I was doing and ended up miscarrying. Would I have saved the baby if I had followed dr's orders? I don't know but trying can't hurt.

I was surprised also. I told my job i needed to go home and rest for the day. If i hadn't I would have been on my feet for 11 hours. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed. I haven't moved from the bed except to go to the bathroom.

This EXACT thing happened to me two and a half weeks ago. My bleeding sounds VERY much like what you are going through, as far as the progression of the color and the amount of bleeding.

I was very fortunate that my doctor saw me the morning after I started bleeding. I really thought I was having a miscarriage, and I was extremely emotional. She did a sonogram, and she was able to see the heart beat at 6 weeks 3 days. It was the best news I had ever heard.

My doctor advised me to take it easy and stay off my feet, but she said that was mainly to make me feel like I was doing everything I could. However, she said that there is NOTHING you can do to make a miscarriage less likely. So if you have to or choose to go to work, please know that you're not doing anything to endanger the fetus.

I am now 8 1/2 weeks pregnant and everything is going great. I bled for one and a half weeks, but it stopped. Good luck, and take it from me -- this can work out!

How long into the pregnancy did you start bleeding? (for one and a half weeks?)
