Default Dog lovers!!

I was just curious to hear about your wonderful canines! I have 5 dogs....Yes, I know. Three of them are Patterdale Terriers that we plan to breed. That is how we ended up with 5. I also have a pit bull and a mountain cur. A mountain cur is a hoosier hunting dog The Patterdales are pretty rare dogs. The two girls are about 13 lbs. They hate one another. It is the craziest thing. If they are ever together they try to kill one another right away. It is terrible and stressful! We are constantly rotating dogs in and out of the house. Aahhhh....I love them, though! It has been too hot here lately, so we haven't even been able to chain them outside. Well....let me know what you have and how much you love them

I have 3 dogs, but only 2 of them live with me. The other ended up staying at my parents' house after I moved out because my mom absolutely fell in love with her. The two that live with my husband and I are Pokey and Kimber.

Pokey is a cockapoo (cocker spaniel/poodle mix). I adopted him when I graduated from high school. He was the first indoor dog I ever had. (My parents were not big fans of having dogs in the house, and every other dog we had was huge, so they ended up spending their time outside.) I don't know Pokey's exact age, but I'm guessing he's 7 or 8 years old. He's incredibly protective of children that he is used to. When I lived with my parents, he would sometimes stay the night in my little sister's room. If anyone tried to enter the room, he made it very clear that they should stay out!
Pokey is also very very opinionated. He'll let you know what he wants, what he's thinking, what he thinks you should do. He communicates better than a lot of people, and he definitely has more character than most humans! I've always thought that he was a human that hated dogs, reincarnated as a dog. He acts like he hates the fact that he's got 4 legs and a stumpy tail....haha Plus, he's so smart! he does things that most other dogs would never do...
Pokey is my baby though, and probably one of the main reasons I knew my husband was the right man for me. Other than my husband, Pokey has never liked a man that I was dating. The first time Pokey met my husband, he climbed right up on the couch with him and fell asleep. Thats how I knew Elliott was the one.... he won my dog over!

Okay, now on to Kimber. Elliott and I adopted Kimber about a month ago. She is a Sharpei/Labrador mix, but looks so much like a pitbull! She was rescued from a crappy situation. She stayed tied outside for the first 5 months of her life with no real interaction with people. Her owners kept her in a harness so tight that it caused cuts and scars on her chest. After that, she went to a shelter where she ran free with about 20 other dogs. Because of this, she's great with other animals, minus the fact that she doesn't realize her own strength. Elliott and I visited the shelter, desperately looking for the right dog to add to our family. Every other shelter had sick, sad looking dogs and LONG waiting lists. We walked into the courtyard where all of the dogs played together, and Kimber ran up to Elliott. She would not allow him to play with any other dog, so we kind of figured that she was the one.
Since then, we've been working with her to get her potty trained, and to get her to listen to commands. So far she can sit, lay down, and roll over (when she wants to) She's not very good with verbal commands, but does great with sign language. Now, potty training... thats another story. We can take her out, and she'll go to the bathroom. We'll walk her for another 5-10 minutes and she won't do anything else. Take her back in and guess what? Within 5 minutes, she's going in the floor again. It drives me crazy.
Kimber is a sweetheart, though. I know she is capable of doing amazing things, but its like something is holding her back.

Now, on to my other dog at my parents. Her name is Sophie, and she's Pokey's best friend. Pokey won't hardly tolerate any other dogs. her barely tolerates Kimber.... but anyways, Sophie is a shihtzu/poodle mix. She's about 3 years old. My dad brought her home for me as a gift. She sort of just appeared at his work one day and needed a home.
Sophie is a mess. She's not the smartest dog out there, but she means well. She's always happy, and I've never seen her upset.

I love my dogs to death, and worry every day how they are going to react to a new baby.

My first baby is almost a year old now and is absolutely adorable. She is a yorkie/maltese mix named Popcorn and if you didn't know any better you would think she is about 4 months old. I didn't want a toy sized dog but she stopped growing at about 9 months and she is a little over 11 inches long and weighs about 5.5 pounds. My husband and I picked her out of a seven litter group and the breeder insisted the runt went first, I'm not so sure now. She loves to sit on you no matter what you are doing, even if you are reading she will sit half on your lap and half on the book. As long as she can touch you she is content. I keep joking with my hubby that when I get bigger there will be no room for him in our queen bed...guess he gets the not so comfy couch So glad I got a puppy before getting prego. They really test patients with potty training and chewing on things you LOVE!!!

We have 2 dog. We actually have quite the menagerie but I'm gonna focus on the pooches for this thread. We got Puppy (yes, that is his name) after my gramma passed away 2 years ago. I lived with gramma for several years while I was working and going to school so I was the only one he tolerated besides gramma. To spare him a sad, lonely life living by himself on an empty farm we took him in. He has blossomed under our care. He'll never be a "normal" dog but he has come as far as he's going to. He used to bite and was kind of a nut. Now he's a pampered city pooch that lives indoors and the change has really done him well. He's 14 years old and he's probably a bichon.

Then there is lil miss Sadie. She's 7 months old now and she's a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. This breed is so uncommon everyone assumes she's a pit, pit cross, or AmStaff. Same family but not the same breed. She's 25 pounds now and we've put a lot into obedience and training. She can do sit, down, stay, come, beg, heel, carry it (I give her a "job" of carrying something while we walk, usually a toy), and right now we're working on NO JUMPING ON PEOPLE! She has bells on the door that she rings when she has to go potty. My smart kitty has figured out that trick by watching Sadie and now he rings the bells too when he wants to go out! We're also taking conformation classes with Sadie so we can learn how to show her.

Sadie has been INCREDIBLY good for Puppy. I always saw myself as a one dog kind of girl but once Puppy passes on we may get another one to keep her busy. They play so much together!

Here's puppy. He looks like an 80s hair band rock star here.

Here's Sadie "sitting pretty" (beg)

Frog Legs

(she's my baby, can you tell?)

Right now we are down to just Bosco, who is the worlds stupidest dog... I love him to death, but he sure is dumb. He's a 4-5 year old beagle mix- we argue about the mix part, but I think it's german shephard. He was in an accident with his first owners when he was a pup where he was drug behind a moving truck, and it messed up his back legs a little. He gets around fine and doesn't have any pain, but it's something that might become an issue as he ages.
He's a barker with the worst separation anxiety I've ever seen. We had a broken window here at the house for a while which we boarded over until there was money to fix it. The hole was about at the level of my head, and about 6 inches square. This dog is the size of an overweight, large lab. Anyway, the next time we had to leave the house after boarding this window, he decided to rip the board down and somehow jump out this window. I have no idea how he fit through it, but he did somehow. We put the board back up, and the same thing kept happening. So I hated to do it, but we had to shut him in the bedroom while we were gone, and he started trying to burrow out... now there's about six inches of the bottom of my door gone. Then we tried the garage, but he broke the door and escaped from there. Then the basement, which has a latching baby gate at the top of the stairs. He figured out how to open the gate. Last I tried leaving him outside on his long chain, but I got a noise complaint and the cops were at my house.
After all that, I was sure we were going to have to get rid of him. But the window is fixed now, and we try to take him with us more when we go out, so it doesn't seem to bother him as much when we have to leave him home.
Other than that, he poops upstairs in the kids rooms, and he gets into the garbage and steals the kid's food right off the table. I've been trying to work with him as much as I can, but he doesn't seem to get it.
I love him to death, but I'm not sure how much longer he'll be staying with us if he doesn't shape up a bit!

We currently have four dogs.

Lacey-MinPin/Rat Terrier (I call her my mini-rat.) She's full of energy and 100% obsessed with playing ball or fetching anything you throw...even your socks. She's a super smart dog.

Tootsie-Chihuahua and my complete baby! I bought Lacey thinking she would be MINE and she bonded with my hubs, so Tootsie was my second attempt. It worked this time! She's the sweetest dog on the planet. She's full grown at 2 1/2 years old now, but her personality is that of a puppy.

Gretchen and Heidi-Rottweiler sisters. We originally bought these girls for my FIL. He became ill over a year ago and he just simply could not handle them anymore. They are by far the goofiest (and not bright at all)! They are very sweet and friendly with adults. They are not kid friendly or little dog friendly, so that is a major challenge at times.

We also have a cat, 2 bunnies, a turtle, a flying squirrel and 4 chickens!

BTW, Nicole, your Sadie is gorgeous! I LOVE the butt shot with the legs straight out. Too funny.

Puppy looks great for 14 too! I had a little MinPin that lived to be 18! I have a soft heart for the senior pups too.

I realized in my post I didn't even tell the names of my dogs. My pitbull's name is Toby. He is kind of the not so smart one of the group. He is just big and clumsy. My two female Patterdales are named Dakota and Zippo. The male is named Nero. Kaya is the name of my mountain cur. We just got Nero a month ago. He is 14 weeks and so cute. Kaya is 3 yrs old and the other two girls are 1, with Toby turning 1 next month. Yes, last fall we were house training 3 puppies at once. It was a nightmare. I would be cleaning up one mess and another one would be going somewhere else. I will explain why I took that in a little later. I will have a break in about 15 min, because that story will take a little longer. I love reading all your posts about your "babies"!
