I'm a 6 weeks pregnant can anybody suggest me what type of food shall I eat during these days and which vitamins tablets are available and suitable for pregnancy. How much calories shall I take per day and which fruits shall I eat.

The best thing to do is just focus on eating healthy when you are hungry. Many books recommend eating 5 or 6 small meals a day. If you get the book called what to expect when you are expecting, it has a whole section about diet in there which is nice. Also you should be taking prenatal vitamins, which you can get over the counter or your dr can give you a perscription for some.

I was told to specifically stay away from KFC and chinese food. You will want to limit your caffeine amount also. Have you seen a doctor yet? Your doctor would be able to prescribe prescription prenatal vitamins for you. If you haven't seen a doctor yet you could get them at the pharmacy or at Walmart. It's very important for you to have folic acid as it helps to prevent birth defects. I started taking prenatal vitamins as soon as my husband and I decided we wanted to have another baby so I've been taking them since last July. LOL The ones I'm using now are a prescription prenatal. My insurance covers them so it's cheaper than buying them.

If you cant afford prenatal vitamins or just dont like them i recommend Flintstones Chew ables...I've been taking those since I became pregnant and I'm doing fine!

any fruits, any veggies are good... I'd stay away from too many carrots as having TOO much vitamin A in your diet isnt good.

"The trick during pregnancy is not to get too much of the preformed vitamin A, which in high doses can cause birth defects and liver toxicity. The government considers 3,000 mcg RAE (10,000 IU) the maximum amount of preformed vitamin A that you should get from supplements, animal sources, and fortified foods each day."

I'd stay away from raw fish, caffeine, soft cheese like goat cheese, feta cheese, blue cheese, deli meat (unless cooked), raw eggs, unpasteurized milk, & the obvious alcohol & drugs.

This site:

Eating During Pregnancy

has some good info as to what foods help do what for the baby/moms body.

um why kfc and chinese and who told you this?

I just want to clarify that caffeine is a controversial issue. Many say that it can cause miscarriages and "isn't good for you" but on the flip side, there have also been studies that show it doesn't make a difference. I just cut back dramatically. FYI, coffee has the MOST caffeine so I would definately try and stay away from that. If you have a soda or two I wouldn't beat yourself up for it. Chocolate also has caffeine but no one ever tells us to stay away from that lol

TRY and eat healthy, I had a hard time with this. After my first trimester of being sick constantly and hardly able to eat, I began craving fast food = ( I rarely want a salad anymore because I got sick off one before it was even digested in my stomach so I eat canned vegi's AFTER I rinse them off to take most of the salt away.

Im not the one that posted the thing about Chinese food & KFC but I think they say to stay away from it because of the amount of MSG contained in the food there
