just wondering...
i heard for the first month of being pregnant you are to eat healthy. well my body tricks me that i'm pregnant when i'm not because i'm sure i have been getting my cycle. so since it's so hard to tell you are actually pregnant, like me, how do you know when to actually eat things that a pregnant woman should eat and avoid things that could hurt the baby (e.g. breathing in smoke, spraying perfume, drinking pop with caffeine, having tuna, etc. like that)? i can't wait to actually be pregnant and i want to eat very healthy for my baby the first month especially. i been trying for a full 3 months and i sometimes thought i was pregnant but then i menstrualate. how can i tell?-rhetorical question there, but... just i wanna know the "how do you know when to actually eat things that a pregnant woman should eat and avoid things that could hurt the baby" part, please

Well, if you're trying to get pregnant, you should be eating healthy anyway. Though, you can eat some tuna. It's just the mercury levels you need to be careful of, but a can once in a while won't hurt. Also, spraying perfume is fine, too. Especially in a well-ventilated area. You shouldn't be breathing in smoke at all though because not only is it dangerous for a baby, but for you as well.

Re: just wondering...
That's misinformation that you should "only eat healthy" at that time. You should ALWAYS eat healthy as best you can before during and after pregnancy. Also, it's true, you CAN eat tuna but the amount must be limited. Caffeine is a debatable topic though I cut WAY down after finding out I was pregnant, not to mention the morning sickness kept me away from it and if I drink too much now (more than 4-6oz) my stomach starts to not feel well.
Also, you should always stay away from smoke, especially from inhaling it.
Its hard to eat healthy all the time especially when you have certain junk food cravings heh

It's funny that soda with caffeine upsets your stomach. It seems to calm mine.

I agree w/this. you should always eat healthy... there really arent THAT many foods you're supposed to avoid during pregnancy...just things like raw foods & caffeine.
I have also never ever heard about the thing with perfumes??
To answer your question... when is the best time to start eating healthy?... if you're trying to get pregnant... start eating healthy now! You can also start taking pre-natal vitamins now... a lot of women do that.

Re: just wondering...
You should be eating healthy right now. I stopped drinking soda with caffeine months b4 i even tried to get pregnant. I also tried to eat better and took prenatals which you should take b4 you even get pg, because you never know when you could get pregnant.
