Default folic acid

I did not start taking folic acid until I knew I was 4 weeks pregnant. Now, how much will that affect my baby?

I think you will be okay. When I had my iud removed in July of 2007 the doctor had me start on them then because she knew we were trying to conceive but not everyone takes them before hand. After the baby is born I'm going to continue to take them. I can get them covered under my insurance for about three months post partum and then I will buy my own after that.

You'll be fine. Most people don't find out they're pregnant until 3 or 4 weeks and don't start taking prenatals until after that.

I had to stop taking my prenatals, anyhow - the doctor told me to take 2 flintstone vitamins instead.

Me neither But now my baby is here, and he's as healthy as any others.
A regular diet usually also contains folic acid, so your baby would still get them. The supplement is to make sure that both mom and baby get enough amount to grow new cells.
