Default Camping Foods?

I am going camping for a whole week next week. Since I have chosen not to eat hot dogs, still questioning deli meats, and need to avoid spoiled macaroni salads and stuff like that- I have no idea what to bring to eat! There will only be a campfire to cook on, and I am concerned that after a week, most foods will spoil- even if in a cooler. I don't want to skimp on nutrition for my little growing baby- so does anyone have any good suggestions??

You can always take potatoes/other veggies and cut them up and kind of roast/steam them on the grill in tin foil and add some seasoning... Anything canned you could take like green beans, baked beans, canned soup, corn etc. Granola... You could also take bread, peanut butter & honey to make PB&H sandwiches.... I would take something like fruit roll ups or something like that also... I cant think of anything else offhand, hope this helps

Take care to avoid the risk of any infection or illness from undercooked or contaminated foods. Eggs for instance, eggs should be slightly over cooked so that both the white and the yoke are well done, make sure that you de-frost frozen foods properly and cook thoroughly any meat or poultry. Avoid pates and any unpasteurised milk products including ice creams.

You could pack nuts, seeds, cereals and grains including wholemeal and Rye breads, spaghetti, rice and oatmeal, fruits and veg too, They are all foods important to providing you with the necessary minerals and vitamins.

Although fish contains important minerals and fatty acids, omega 3 for instance, some have high levels of mercury which can have an adverse effect on the new baby’s development. Salmon, Shrimp and canned light tuna are said to be low in mercury levels as are Pollock and catfish.

I have written more on the subject of sensible eating whilst pregnant at my blog 3trimesterspregnancy.com » The 3 Trimesters of Pregnancy
