Default why is soda so bad

OK, I understand soda with caffeine is bad, but what about non-caf sodas? Is it the sugar? What is it that pulls calcium from your bones (somebody told me this is what soda does)? Could I drink a non-caf soda like once or twice a week and not feel like a terrible mother?

I drink soda everyday, caffeine. I don't drink more than one, but I do have a soda a day. I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

Soda also contains Aspertame a chemical low fat sweetner.

It took many many years for the FDA to finally approve the chemical and it did when Regan took office. Regan fired the head of the FDA and put his own guy in who approved it almost immediatly.

Aspertame is thought to cause:
Retardation
Neurological problems
Vocal Cord Paralysis
Muscle Spasims
Trach Tube Problems
Brain Cell Damage

Something elese that makes me wonder why Autisim has gone from 1 in 700 to 1 in 33 children born today.

I cut out soda and caffeine for the first 2 weeks I knew I was pregnant, and all of a sudden got really terrible headaches. And I was too NO TYLENOL NO ANYTHING, so I sat there with these awful headaches. I finally called my clinic, they said it was probably caffeine related and it was no big deal to either have a can of soda/coffee (limited) or to take 2 tylenol. I have a can of soda everyday and I'm fine. You will be too, no matter if you choose caffeine or caffeine free soda.

Aspertame is only in diet soda or other diet drinks... not regular, regular sodas use natural sugars. The article posted clearly states that the woman drank diet sodas and other non sugar beverages sweetened with artificial sugars. Soda is okay in moderation. My doc recommended caffiene free to me since I love soda and its really the only thing i can hold down right now. It's also really helpful for indigestion.

Yay! Thanks for the posts, I am going to go on drinking my 1-2 non-caf, regular sugar Hansens' "natural" (whatever that means - probably not much) sodas a week and not feel guilty about it. :-)

You would have to drink TONS of diet soda for any side effects like that to happen. I didn't drink a whole lot when I was pregnant because my stomach just couldn't handle it and I didn't want too much caffeine in my system because it went to her too.

I went out and bought some diet caf free pepsi yesterday but I think I am going to try to cut out Pepsi all together. I've been thinking for so long how bad aspartame is for ME so I don't want to put my baby through that.

I've only had about one glass of pop a day so far. I think I might just go to regular pepsi, honestly. I know I can have a bit of caffeine a day and I'd rather deal with the sugar than the aspartame!!!

You can have a certain amount of caffeine a day which is ok.. I think a lot of why pop is so bad is because of how all the sodium sticks to you too. Most pops have a lot of sodium in them. I try not to drink much but I do crave a mountain dew every once in a while.. talk about a suga buzz lol.

ok sorry but this makes me laugh....."a lot of sodium" I had this conversation the other day with my friend and showed her that diet pop only has 35mg of sodium. Unless you think that's "a lot".....but I don't think it is...
