Default So how bad is Caffeine?

Every once in a while I'll have a cup of coffee, like every other day. I just get so tired that it's hard not to. I feel kind of bad about it, but I don't know how much I should. It's definitely the only "substance" I've had during this whole ordeal. So what do you guys think about that? Am I being "bad" or is what I'm doing ok. How many of you guys drank or are drinking caffeine while you are pregnant....?

If you are going to have any caffiene, coffee or tea is your best source. A woman can have 1 cup of coffee or tea a day and be perfectly fine.

It gets bad when you add in carbination and sugar to the mix. (like a mountain dew or coke)

Don't feel bad about that! You and baby are just fine with that amount.

thanks! I was hoping on being able to indulge every once in a while in that nice waker-upper...after all, there are still things that need to get done while I am pregnant and I can't just sleep ALL the time! Not to mention that I used to have another stimulant that would help me going and concentrated on the day, but considering it's a class-C during pregnancy I quit that as soon as I found out I was pregnant (adderall). It's good to know that the other, much milder stimulant is still ok in moderation...

I read in "What to expect when your expecting" that up to 200 mg of caffeine a day is ok, which is almost what is in the perked cup of coffee (I think), a can of pop had 35mg.

From the research Ive done.. up to 300 mg of caffeine is safe during pregnancy! Soda pop doesnt have a lot of caffeine in it, but should still be comsumed in moderation. I have about one ot two pepsi or coke a day to alleviate headaches and that is said to be okay! I do avoid coffee for personal reasons.. but I know that 1 or two coffees daily is also fine! My grandma is an RN and she informed me that Im too careful. She said she was drinking a pot of coffee a day (working her crazy hours) and all of her children were full term and of healthy birth weight! Basic rule of thumb in pregnancy is "always use moderation". I drink chocolate milk daily- which has caffeine in it and "chocolate" period has caffeine in it! Now find me a preggo that avoids chocolate... enough said! As long as you arent drinking back to back to back Monsters, Red Bulls, and Frappacicinos.. im sure that you are fine!

Espresso 100 mg
Brewed 80-135 mg
Instant 65-100 mg
Decaf, brewed 3-4 mg
Decaf, instant 2-3 mg

This is from Wikipedia. Coffee isnt as bad as people think! One to two cups of coffee a day isnt going to harm you.. and most people need some sort of caffeine fix to get them through the day! I know that I'll get massive headaches if I dont have even a little. I hate the way milk tastes so thank god for Hershey's... and I love me a cold Pepsi! Like I said before... just consume it in moderation!

I've been drinking caffeine my whole pregnancy in moderation. I definitely wouldn't recommended energy drinks, but a cup of coffee isn't going to hurt anything.

I totally agree with all on them. As soon as the nausea was over I started having my normal caffinated filter coffee in the mornings and then I had another cup of decaf in the afternoon. Have been breastfeeding for 10 months now and still do the same...no problems....
