I guess I am a bad mom! I drink Sprite, Tea and Orange Cola and lots and lots of water. When I have a really bad headache I drink hot coffee. Doctor said 2 cups a day wont hurt.

I've been drinking water with a splah of lemon juice. It really helps and I have even been able to get my prenatal pills down with plain water alone. I HATED water before I found out I was pregnant. Always have. So far I've been doing really good with the water and orange juice.

So here is what the pregnancy nutritionist said to me;

Gatorade = worst drink on the market. Waaay to much sugar.
Regular Sodas = second worse for caffeine and sugar
Juice = horrible for you. Lots of sugar

Diet Sodas = ok in moderation without caffeine (Diet Sprite, Sierra Mist, Diet caffeine-free Coke, Coke Zero, etc)
Milk = 1% or 2% are ok, but will raise blood sugar
Coffee = ok if decaf
Tea = ok if decaf
Water = ideal

I like crystal light in my water to flavor it up occasionally. But remember its always ok to allow yourself to cheat every once and a while. maybe see if there is diet Mountain Dew without caffeine?

That is exactly what my doc told me! I had the worst gatorade cravings and he said that is the absolute worst thing you can drink! He wanted me to drink just water but said a coke or two a day woudnt hurt. I crave regular coke for some reason...i never drank it before preg so not sure why...I have recently started to love water. I have been so thirsty and it is the only thing that seems to quench my thirst...and I too was a water hater pre-preg

I'm surprised about the diet soda bit. I figured aspartame wouldn't be recommended.

I drink mostly flavored water, sprite and juice. Sprite is starting to taste HORRIBLE though. I think I need to go buy some decaf iced tea but dangit it's so much more expensive than regular iced tea I can't make myself buy it. The only water I like is grape and strawberry kiwi flavored. Regular water makes any nausea worse. Juice is the absolute best but I heard you shouldn't drink it and should eat fruits instead. Why can't I do both? Lol.

I make fruit waters. Strawberries, raspberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, etc. I blend them in a blender, then use a strainer to get rid of any seeds or extra pulp. I add water, and I have fresh juice with only natural sugar. I use lots of water so that's why it's fruit water rather than fruit juice. I personally love water so I don't mind drinking it. I can't believe how thirsty you get! I normally don't buy fruit juice because of the sugar, I love it but I understand it isn't the best for you. i do allow myself a good serving or two a day now because I'm pregnant. I make sure it's pure juice and not full of sugar. But for thirst quenching and throughout the day it's just water for me. I grow spearmint, so I crush the leaves and add a little honey to the water and it makes a refreshing cool drink or hot drink. I am trying to at least get a serving of milk in but that's hard. I'm not in love with it. I don't like sodas, or artificially flavored drinks anyway, so that hasn't been a problem. If you like lemon, try squeezing some in your water. You'll get vitamins and it makes the water taste great. I love blending lemons whole minus the seeds..most of the flavor of lemon is in the skin. I just wash them well, and I make fresh lemonade. Or I add blended strawberries or other berries for a super yummy, refreshing drink..especially now in the summer. (before my prego days...it was yummy with a little vodka! )

For those ladies who hate water...just try adding a little flavor or just keep thinking 'It's so good for my little one'...that should do it!

I just posted this in another thread, but I like to mix my favorite 100% fruit juices with sparkling water. It gives just enough fizz, but without the caffeine. You might try it.
