Re: fresh fruits
I would say it would be safe to eat as much as you want.
Gestational diabetes cannot be prevented from diet. It's basically a throw of the dice with it. My cousin married a woman who had gestation diabetes during pregnancy, and she had always maintained a healthy diet and weight, no history of diabetes, so it was a shock when she had it during pregnancy. It's your body's reaction to a new situation, and unfortunately cannot be prevented.
Fruit is a great source of nutrients.
I googled it and found this answer from a nutritionist:
"Although it is possible to eat too much fruit, generally speaking fruit is a very healthy and refreshing option for pregnant women. But be cautious if you are suffering from morning sickness. Eating a lot of acidic fruits (citrus fruits such as oranges and grapefruits) may cause some stomach upset especially if you are dealing with morning sickness. And it is also important to remember that fruit is high in natural sugars – which under normal conditions is just fine, but if you have gestational diabetes or any blood sugar issues make sure that you work with your doctor or nutritionist to keep your blood sugar under control"
So basically: go to town, but if you have any complications from eating too much, then cut back. : )
